The Da Vinci Code

Have been thinking for weeks on what angle I was gonna blog about the Da Vinci Code. You know, the book and movie that has all 100 million+ of us Christians in collective apoplexy. But since theferrett has talked about this topic, I'll link to his blog entries where he gives his thoughts on the book and how the DVC is just a fiction novel.

Hooray for livejournal.

PS: Oh yeah, the comments are worth reading too, generally..

Haha, thanks for the recc. P.A.S.T.O.R. haha .. =p Mr Brown seems to have been given greater leeway in writing about contempary issues. What with the P.N.P.P. podcasts and all. Which is heartening to know..

I think the main issue faced by Christians is, Do we let a fiction novel attack what we believe in without taking action? Realistically the answer is no - it's like somebody who insults you and your way of life unprovoked. Surely we have the right as a human being to speak out against that, aren't we?

Hope you understand that Christian beliefs is something that is close to the heart of Christians, and we have the right to defend ourselves against attack.

For me I feel the MDA's action is largely symbolic. Rating it NC16 isn't gonna change much anyway, the film would probably impact adults to a greater extent anyway. About the appropiateness of the MDA's action - well, I'll leave you with a thought. What happens if a film attacking Islam is screened in Singapore. Shouldn't the government take action too?

secondly, is singapore's education system so terrible our teenagers cannot understand the difference between fiction and non-fiction, and shouldn't be allowed any opportunity to think critically?

Seriously, I don't think teenagers are gonna spend much time thinking about this movie, unless they are Christians.. Most of them would probably just watch it for the contreversy, just like the non-Christian adults.

i dreamed of picketing outside the mda's office with signs and banners condemning their actions. the media was present and everyone was rational and intelligent about the entire situation. but then i woke up, so i wrote an email to the mda instead.

Picketing is the last thing you want to do in Singapore, man. Unless you want to go out in a blaze of glory.. =p
